The Right Equipment

No matter how much work you put into achieving a healthy green lawn, if you don’t have the right equipment you will never get the results you want. Ideally commercial lawn equipment would be the go-to choice, but since we are working on a residential property and budget we will stick to non-commercial equipment.

THE MOWER

The Lawn Boy 10603 20-Inch 149cc 6-1/2 GT OHV Kohler Gas Powered Push Lawn Mower ($279.99) is ideal for the medium sized yard. Lawn care professionals use this mower because it is lightweight and durable. It is one of the only mower lines that has not switched over to a Kawasaki motor (which I think is a good thing). The Lawn Boy line has a one piece, one position handle allowing for more power though the push. Lawn Boy has 2 year warranty. If you would rather have a self-powered mower I would not recommend that you stick with the Lawn Boy product line. But come on, it is not that much work to push a lawn mower.

THE TRIMMER

The Tanaka TCG22EASSLP 21.1cc 2-Stroke Gas Powered Straight Shaft Grass Trimmer Brush Cutter (CARB Compliant) ($340.99) is the trimmer to have. The Redmax line was the top in the industry but Tanaka has quickly taken over. Buy this with the Tanaka 32308 No Brainer Quick Load Cutting Head for Straight Shaft String Trimmers and you have the best set up in the neighborhood. Purchase a spool of string, the 6-pack of 2-cycle oil and dedicate a separate gas can for it and you are set for the summer.

THE BLOWER

The RedMax EBZ5100-RH 50.2cc 2-Stroke Gas Powered 171 MPH Right Handed Backpack Blower ($345) is still the head of its class. While RedMax has lost some ground in the trimmer division, it is still number with blowers. The blower is 23 lbs but the padded straps and back design helps out a lot. The dedicated 2-cycle oil gas can you set aside for your trimmer will come in handy with the  blower.
